OVU's Brooks Earns '06 WVIAC Freshman of the Year Honors

Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots_Britney Brooks PRINCETON, W.VA--Ohio Valley University point guard Britney Brooks earned the nod as the 2005-06 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, OVU Athletic Director Ron Pavan has announced.

Brooks is the first Ohio Valley women's basketball player to ever claim one of the West Virginia Conference's major awards. "We are all extremely proud of Britney and congratulate her on this achievement during her freshman year," said OVU Head Women's Basketball Coach Jason Dougherty. "She has worked very hard this year and this award is a tremendous way to acknowledge her effort and leadership on and off the court," Dougherty noted.

Brooks played a major role as Ohio Valley increased their win total from seven to a dozen entering the post-season during the 2005-06 season. The 5-6 point guard from Harrison, Ohio, served as the catalyst for an offense that stands 22nd nationally in scoring offense at 76.2 points per game, a 16-plus point jump from the Lady Scots' 2004-05 totals.

The Cincinnati-area native leads OVU in scoring (15.5 ppg) and assists (2.7 apg). She owns eight games with 20 or more points this season, including a 29-point outing in a victory over Alderson-Broaddus in January.
