FIGHTING SCOTS MEN'S SOCCER TEAM

OVU Men's Soccer Final Game of the Season

Ohio Valley University played their final game of the season today against the Shepherd University Rams. Coach Dan Lyons would coach his final game as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Ohio Valley University after 16 years of being with the team since its conception in 1997.

The first half of play was very back and forth between the Rams and the Fighting Scots until fifteen minutes in when Bryce Fugitt poked the ball over the head of OVU’s keeper, D’Arcy Turner as he charged the 1v1 situation. This would be the game winner for the Rams who would go on to score 5 more in the game for a 6-0 victory. Fugitt would score a hat trick in the match.

Kevin Rivera led the Fighting Scots in shots with four as OVU had seven total in the game. Christian Breaux made an appearance in net for OVU and had two saves while in there.
This concludes the Fighting Scots 2012 season.

OVU loses a close game to Concord University 10-24-12

The Fighting Scots of OVU and the Mountain Lions of Concord University came together today in conference play at Ohio Valley.

After the first 45 minutes of play the game remained scoreless. Ohio Valley’s midfield maintained control of the game and several through balls created offensive opportunities for the Fighting Scots. Christian Breaux almost scored on one such opportunity when Concord keeper, Mitch Thompson came out and made the save. Breaux put the rebound just over the open net.

D’Arcy Turner made some big saves in the half for OVU. He just got his fist on a high shot to the left corner to push the ball over the net.

As the second half started both teams played very evenly but Concord was generating more shots than the Scots. With limited subs for OVU, the team began to fatigue. Concord’s Caleb Bone got a cross on the back side of the net from teammate Isaac Jordan and placed it in the open net for the game winning goal. Concord would strike once more six minutes later when Tyler Farrar crossed a ball that deflected to Ryan Forde for a goal making the final score 2-0.

The Fighting Scots have one game remaining, tomorrow against Shepherd University at 2pm.

OVU vs California-PA Recap 10-6-12

The Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots men’s soccer team faced off against the California University of Pennsylvania today in regional play. The sunny, cool weather made for perfect playing conditions as the teams battled on OVU’s home field.
Cal-PA would come out fast and strike early. Within the first minute of play they would score after a long pass from defender Billy Wilson would find teammate Anthony DiFrancesco up front who would beat the defense with speed to score.

Both teams settled in for some disciplined soccer where the game was continually played in the midfield. Kevin Rivera, Christian Breaux, and Jackie Flynn played in the middle for the Fighting Scots and had made many beautifully strung passes. Cal-Pa was calm and collected throughout the game and forced several turnovers by the Scots.

In the 36th minute of play Cal-PA struck again with a goal tapped in by Tyler Woolum off a cross by Brad Colvin and a flick by Chris Hunkele. This would bring the score at half time to 2-0.

The Vulcans would pick up 3 more goals in the second half. In the 63rd minute of play David Deamer scored on a pass from Anthony DiFrancesco. The Fighting Scots kept their heads up and kept fighting throughout the game to gain some scoring opportunities. A close offsides call took away a golden opportunity on a pass from Kevin Rivera to Samuel Asimeng. But the Scots would not be shutout. In the final minute of play Christian Breaux would chase down a pass to Cal-PA keeper Alex Heston who was not quick enough getting the ball off of his feet. Breaux ran through the ball and notched a goal for the Scots.
