OVU Splits with AB 4-19-13

After several hours of delay due to rain the Fighting Scots and Battlers of Alderson-Broaddus finally got started in their conference doubleheader at Jackson Park. The Battlers came into the game with the better record.

Ally Southall took to the mound for OVU in game one of the doubleheader. Southall has been extremely successful for the Fighting Scots this season and looked to continue against Alderson-Broaddus. She had a tough first inning walking the first batter she faced and then gave up a two run homerun which would prove to be enough for the win for AB. The Fighting Scots were only able to come up with three hits in the contest. OVU made an effort to come back in the seventh with a runner in scoring position but the pitching efforts of AB’s Ali Neace would prove to be too much for the Fighting Scots.

Southall got the start on the mound in game two for the Fighting Scots as well. OVU was able to get 1-0 lead in the second inning on a single to center field by Chanel Bouchard that would score Donna O’Bryant in a close play at home. Unfortunately that lead was short lived as the Battlers scored three runs in the top of the third. OVU would fight back in their half of the third capitalizing on their base running and two key hits to score four runs of their own and reclaim the lead. Brittany Shepley came up with a big hit to centerfield with bases loaded that scored two of the four runs in the inning. This would prove to be enough for the OVU win as AB picked up one more run in the seventh. Caroline Vinesett and Brittany Shepley both had several huge defensive plays for OVU that kept the Battlers from anymore runs. OVU would win the game 5-4.

The Fighting Scots take the field again tomorrow for the team’s final home game of the season and Senior day in a doubleheader against Fairmont State University at 2pm.

Southall had 3 three up three down innings and six strike outs in her five innings pitched. CeCe Bailey came in for the save as the Scots won the game 2-0.
