OVU Library Policies

General Policies

In an effort to establish an atmosphere conducive to academic study and in accordance with Ohio Valley University’, all electronic devices must be silenced and telephone calls may be taken outside of the library.

Food and drink are not allowed in the OVU library.

Circulation

Books are circulated to students and guests for two week periods and can be renewed for an additional two week period. Books checked out by faculty circulate for 30 days. Overdue book charges are $.05 per day.

Overdue book charges can be paid through the donation of canned goods. The library will donate canned goods to a local charity. One can of food covers $1 worth of book fines.

Compensation for lost or damaged books includes the cost of the book plus a processing fee.

Periodicals, reference, and reserve materials do not circulate and can only be used in the library or photocopied.

School of Professional Studies (SPS)

Each SPS cohort receives a username and password for remote access to the library’s electronic holdings, which will expire on the last day of the month the cohort’s expected graduation. SPS students wishing to access circulating library materials may come to the library on weekdays between 9:00am and 5:00pm to register with the professional Library staff.

Special Education Institute (SEI)

Each SEI cohort receives a username and password for remote access to the library’s electronic holdings, which will expire on the last day of the month the cohort’s expected graduation. SEI students wishing to access circulating library materials may come to the library on weekdays between 9:00am and 5:00pm to register with the professional Library staff and receive an OVU library card.
