Music scholarships are awarded by audition in the spring. Students apply online for a music audition to a particular performing group. A student may audition for more than one performing group if they desire. OVU music scholarships are not limited to students who plan to major in music.
Express Scholarship
- Sing one accompanied contemporary song
- Sing one unaccompanied hymn
- Be prepared for an aural skills test (sight-reading and pitch memory exercises)
- Letter of recommendation from your high school choir director or private music teacher
A Cappella Singers Scholarship
- Sing one art song, aria or folk song to be accompanied by piano; this should be the type of piece one would perform at a solo and ensemble competition
- Be prepared for an aural skills test (sight-reading and pitch memory exercises)
- Letter of recommendation from your high school choir director or private music teacher
Jazz Ensemble Sholarship
- On trumpet, trombone, saxophone, bass, piano or drum set, play a jazz tune to show technical proficiency and/or improvisational skills
- Sight reading
- Letter of recommendation from your high school band/orchestra director or private music teacher
Chamber Players Scholarship
- On strings, woodwinds, brass or piano, play a classical piece or a movement of a sonata
- Sight-reading
- Letter of recommendation from your high school band/orchestra director or private music teacher
