"Which classes will I take as a member of the Honors Program?"
Honors students take a number of their general education courses as honors courses:
First year - Life of Christ, Acts to Revelations, Introduction to Fine Arts, and Contemporary Issues in Science.
Second Year - Old Testament Survey, Western Literature, United States History, United States Government, and Leadership Development
During their junior and senior years, students in the honors program will also complete 12 hours in their major for honors credit. For these courses, students will take a regular course but will complete it for honors credit by fulfilling an honors contract.
In a course with an honors contract, the instructor and the student will work together to redesign one or more of the assignments to meet the stated goals of the Honors Program. The emphasis is on the quality of the completed assignments rather than on the quantity of the work assigned; in other words, honors students will be completing different assignments, not additional assignments.
"Will these classes allow me to graduate on time?"
YES! The program is designed to work best for students on a regular 4-year degree. The Honors Program simply suppliments the courses a student would normally take. The program is NOT designed to help students graduate faster than the normal alloted 4 years, though this has been done.
"Will these classes threaten to lower my GPA?"
NO. As previously mentioned, the classes aim to be more challenging, NOT more difficult or more time-consuming.
