STORRS, Conn. (AP) -- Greg Gamble scored 25 points to lead Buffalo to an 89-82 win over Ohio Valley Wednesday in the first round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.
Andrew Atman added 16 for the Bulls (1-0), who will play the winner of the other first-round game between Morgan State and Connecticut.
Ohio Valley (0-1) had four players in double figures, led by Micah Mill's 16 points. Chris Leborious had 14. Buffalo's first points came more than 3 minutes into the game on two free throws after Ohio Valley's Jacob Borner was whistled for an unusual technical foul. He entered the game with a different jersey number (25) than the one listed on the roster (23).
Buffalo was trailing 36-32, when it went to a pressure defense. Atman scored nine of his 12 first-half points down the stretch and the Bulls took a 47-46 lead into the half. He was 3-of-3 from 3-point range.
The Bulls led by as many as 14 in the second half, but Ohio Valley used a trapping defense to make a late run. The Fighting Scots cut the lead to three, 84-81, late, but Buffalo hit its free throws down the stretch and held on.

OVU Upset Bid Falls Just Short
(STORRS, CT)---Missed free throws and turnovers cost Ohio Valley in their upset bid versus Division I Buffalo as the Fighting Scots dropped an 89-82 decision in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.
OVU committed 31 turnovers and only connected on 19 of 33 free throws. On the flip side, the Fighting Scots did force 26 turnovers and owned a 41-39 rebounding edge.
Ohio Valley (0-1) led by as many seven points on two occasions in the opening half before settling for a 47-46 deficit at the half.
Buffalo grabbed the lead for good midway through the second half and built the lead into double figures. Ohio Valley pulled within 84-81 in the final two minutes, but the Fighting Scots could get no closer.
Greg Gamble led Buffalo with a game-high 25 points. Ohio Valley placed four players in double figures, led by Micah Mills' 16. Chris Leborious added 14, Omar Campbbell chipped in 13, and Steve Camberis ended with 10.
The Fighting Scots will play Morgan State at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.
