Fighting Scots lose tough home match
Vienna, WV (September 4, 2009) - The Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley University came out determined today against the University of Findlay Oilers only to fall just short of the win.
Findlay would start the scoring off very early by placing a shot past OVU keeper Kelly Diaz (SO-Palisades Park, NJ) after only 1:48. B.J. Goodwin (SR-Alliance, OH) scored with Brennan Williams (JR- Liberty Twp., OH) providing the assist. The Oilers would keep the pressure up by adding another goal just 17 minutes later at the 18:14 mark when Brennan Williams (JR- Liberty Twp., OH) would net a goal after receiving the pass from Gary Brown (JR-Canton, OH). Ohio Valley would answer back as Danny Fernandez (JR-Miami, FL) would bury his shot off a great pass from Roberto Jofra (JR-Miami, FL) to trim the lead to 2-1 before halftime.
The second half would see the Oilers again come out quickly to regain their 2 goal advantage when Kyle Pahren (FR-Dayton, OH) would score unassisted just 92 seconds into the second half at 46:32. Though discouraged by this early goal, the Fighting Scots would continue to fight and would be rewarded with their efforts by finding the net 10 minutes later. Shane Mead (FR-Preston, England) would score his first goal of his collegiate career and bring OVU back to within 1 goal. Ultimately, the 1 goal margin would hold up and Findlay would leave with a 3-2 victory.
Findlay would hold a 19-14 in total shots and an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. OVU would be tagged with 16 fouls and Findlay had 13. Corner kicks would favor the Oilers by a 10-4 margin.
