Ohio Valley plays tough but falls short

Huntington, WV (Septemner 15, 2009) - The Thundering Herd of Marshall University played host to the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley University.  This was by far the best effort turned in by the Scots and the results definitely proved this out.  Playing with more confidence and energy then seen in the past the Scots were toe to toe with a good Division I opponent in Marshall.  The game action moved back and forth until Marshall's Fayanga Keita scored from a pass received by Sammy Boateng.  This would be score heading into halftime.

The second half would see Marshall stepping up the pressure to try to beat a pesky OVU defensive effort.  When the Thundering Herd was able to convert on a penalty kick at the 74:22 mark by Matt Butler, the hopes of the Fighting Scots to upset this Division I opponent were quickly fading.  Marshall would add an insurance goal from Devin Perkins off an assist by Matt Butler at 78:27 to complete the scoring and earn the 3-0 win.

Marshall would hold a 24-9 margin on total shots with a slim 7-5 advantage for shots on goal.  OVU would lead 20-12 in fouls and trail Marshall by a 8-1 margin in corner kicks.

Ohio Valley University (1-6-0) will look to begin their conference schedule on the right note when they travel to Athens, WV for a key WVIAC match with Concord University.
