Ohio Valley endures another close lose
Erie, PA (September 9, 2009) - Mercyhurst College would come out strong and pressure the OVU defense to claim a 2-0 regional win over the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley.
MC's Nicholas Thompson would net the first goal off an assist from Paul Neill at the 15:04 mark in the first half. Even though being outshot in the first half, OVU's defense held strong despite the pressure and went to halftime just down 1-0.
The second half would see a shot off a corner kick by the Scots' Shane Mead (Fr-Preston, England) turned away when a defender maning the far post would pin the ball between himself and the post so that the keeper could grab the ball. Also, Danny D'Amore (JR-Windsor, Canada) would have 2 great shots on goal but luck would not be on the side of Ohio Valley today as the breaks would fall the way of the Lakers.
The Lakers would then ice the game with a goal at the 69:21 mark when Christoph Hampel score from a rebound shot David Miller.
Mercyhurst would hold a 33-5 margin in total shots with an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. OVU would hold the edge in fouls 11-6 with Mercyhurst dominating in corner kicks by a 14-4 mark.
Ohio Valley (1-4-0) returns home to host #17 Slippery Rock University (4-1-0) on September 12, 2009.
