New Assistant Women's Basketball Coaches Join Department

VIENNA, WV – Ohio Valley University’s Athletic Department announced that two new assistant basketball coaches have been hired for the Lady Scots 2011-12 season.

New hires include area natives Stacy Houser and Kimberly Stephens.

Stephens (Mineral Wells, W.Va.) is a 2011 graduate of Glenville State College with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. During her collegiate career she was a member of the college’s women’s basketball team, serving as captain during the 2010-11 season. She was named as Glenville WVIAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and also earned multiple accolades and awards within her major.

Stephens will pursue a master’s degree at OVU beginning this fall. She is a 2007 graduate of Parkersburg South High School. Her previous work includes interning with the University of Cincinnati Sports Information Office and as the YMCA’s Parkersburg South summer league assistant. Stephens comes from a strong basketball coaching background. Her father, Scott Stephens, currently serves as the head basketball coach for the Parkersburg South High School women’s team.

Houser (Washington, W.Va.) is a 2010 graduate of the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in women studies and kinesiology. Her undergraduate studies focused on coaching, children in sports, public health and kinesiology. She is currently pursuing a master’s in sports science and coaching education from Ohio University in Athens.

Over the past five years Houser has worked to lead and oversee youth basketball programs with the Elite Sports Center, Wood County Athletic Commission, KOA Sports Academy (D.C./Virginia) and Eppley Recreation Center (University of Maryland). She recently served as an assistant women’s basketball coach for Parkersburg South High School.

“We’re honored to have Stacy and Kim as part of our women’s basketball program,” OVU Head Women’s Basketball Coach David Wadlington said. “Their enthusiasm and energy will be a wonderful addition to the team we have been building.”

The Lady Scots finished last season with a winning season, under the direction of Wadlington. In his second season the Lady Scots broke the record for most wins in a season since becoming an NCAA II program, most wins in a season in the WVIAC, and most consecutive wins during a season.
