VIENNA, WV – Amanda Weatherwax, of Warsaw, Ohio, recently signed a national letter of intent to play at Ohio Valley University beginning next fall, announced the university’s Athletic Department.
OVU Head Volleyball Coach Paul Jacoby spotted Weatherwax while she was playing Junior Olympic volleyball earlier this year.
"I noticed a couple of things about her. First, she's a team player. She's not selfish. She wants to be on the team and participate," Jacoby said. "Second, her athleticism. She's a great outside hitter. She will be an immediate help and we look forward to her skill sets and teamwork."
Weatherwax is the daughter of Darla and Steve Weatherwax and plans to major in secondary education and minor in American History at OVU. She served as a senior outside hitter for her high school team. Weatherwax was recently tapped as the East Central Ohio League player of the year and earned All-Ohio honorable mention in Division II for her successes on the court.
While she visited several schools in the region, it was OVU’s campus and intimate family-atmosphere that won Weatherwax over and helped make the final decision.
"I went down there (OVU) and it was the same environment as up here," Weatherwax said. "It had a homey feeling. It's a small-area campus. It seemed like everybody knew everybody."
Ohio Valley University is a proud member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and competes in the NCAA Division II in men's baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer and wrestling, as well as women's basketball, golf, cross country, softball, soccer and volleyball.
