Former President of Cigna Corporation Pledges $1 Million to OVU Golden Anniversary Campaign
|
VIENNA, WV – Former Cigna Corporation property and casualty president, Gerald Isom, recently laid down a challenge to Ohio Valley University and its supporters. Raise $1 million in the next three years and he will match it.
Earlier this year, Mr. and Mrs. Isom made an initial donation of $250,000 to OVU with the condition that the university would identify new matching donors over the course of the next three years.
“The key word is ‘new’,” OVU Assistant to the President for Advancement Don Robinson said. “The Isoms look to present creative ways in which they can assist in moving the university forward and on to the next level. This matching pledge is a unique challenge in that it requires OVU to seek first-time donors. We’ve taken that challenge to heart and have already matched the initial donation.”
The initial pledge of $250,000 has already been allocated. A portion of those funds will assist in producing a new DVD to inspire and educate friends and potential donors during Ohio Valley University’s upcoming Golden Anniversary Campaign.
OVU will celebrate its 50th anniversary during the 2010-2011 academic year.
Isom, a staunch supporter of Christian education, has shown genuine and generous interest in a number of Christian colleges across the country including Pepperdine University, Rochester College and Ohio Valley University. A former OVU board member, Isom currently serves on OVU’s Distinguished Board of Visitors.
“My daughters both attended Christian colleges and I’ve always been actively involved in church work and missions. I believe strongly in the values that Christian education provides,” Gerald Isom said. “I know that it has the ability to change the world.”
“My involvement with OVU came about several years ago,” Isom continued. “I liked what I saw. The leadership is strong and the opportunity for growth is abundant. With this particular pledge I wanted to encourage the university to continue to build new relationships with donors and supporters that will help sustain it for many years to come.”
“Through Mr. and Mrs. Isom’s generous pledge, we hope to create additional long-term support for Christian education at OVU that will help sustain several generations of new students,” Robinson said.
