2011 OVU BUILDING PLAYERS BASKETBALL CAMP

July 18-21, 2011
Ages 8-18

TIMES:
Monday-Thursday:  9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Pre-Register by July 9th:  $145
Register after July 9th:  $155

Don't forget to include concession stand money when you pre-register!  Players are encouraged to bring a bag lunch.  Pizza will be available at $1.00 per slice.

CAMP HIGHLIGHTS:

This basketball camp features individual and team instruction,
college level fundamentals, and much more!  Players will be
broken down according to age group.  5 v 5 games will be played
during afternoon sessions.  Thursday, campers will receive awards
for contests and games throughout the week.

CAMP DIRECTORS

Mike Snell:  Mike Snell has served three seasons as the head coach of the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots Men’s Basketball program. He previously served as the assistant men’s basketball coach and head men’s tennis coach at Marietta College in Marietta, OH. Prior to that, he was the head men’s basketball and tennis coach for Thiel College in Greenville, PA. During his tenure with the Tomcats, Snell tied the school record for most wins in a season, won the regular season conference title, and earned accolades as the 2003 PAC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year.

In addition, he served in multiple roles as West Libery State College in West Libery, WV including assistant men’s basketball coach, athletic department academic supervisor, adjunct faculty in physical education and business administration, athletic facility supervisor, assistant men’s golf coach, and SAAC advisor.

During the 1990s, Snell worked with OVU as an assistant men’s basketball coach, as well as an assistant men’s basketball coach and head golf coach for Marietta College.

Ben Howlett:  Howlett begins his first season as a graduate assistant at Ohio Valley University after spending 5 years at West Liberty University as a player and student coach.

Howlett graduated from West Liberty University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2010. He was a standout player at West Liberty from 2005-2009, helping lead the Hilltoppers to a combined 92 wins in four seasons and one NCAA tournament appearance. Ben led West Liberty in scoring his senior season at 23.0 ppg, which ranked him 4th in the nation in Division II, shooting 61% from the field. His 691 points in his final season ranks him 3rd all-time at West Liberty in a single season and 10th on the career scoring list. He is second in the West Liberty career record book in field goal percentage at 58.9%. Howlett was a two time all WVIAC selection, in addition to being an All-Region performer and WVIAC Scholar Athlete during his career.

As a high school player at Marietta (OH) High School, he averaged 30.1 ppg and still holds the school record for career points (1362) and points in a single game (48). He earned Conference and District Player of the Year honors, as well as 2nd team Division 1 All-State his senior year.

Howlett is responsible for recruiting, player development, scouting, on-court instruction, conditioning, weight training, film, and game management.
