1. Full-time students are expected to attend at least 70% of the scheduled Chapel & Assembly sessions each semester (i.e., 50 sessions each semester).
2. At the beginning of each semester, students must examine any extenuating circumstances that might cause them to be unable to meet the minimum attendance requirements (e.g. work obligations, family concerns, student teaching, internships), and submit a typed explanation of those circumstances to the Dean of Students by the end of the first full week of the semester (fall semester by Friday, September 4; spring semester by Friday, January 22). Any request that is submitted after the first full week of the semester is subject to a $30.00 administrative fee. The Dean of Students will evaluate the circumstances and, if necessary, adjust the student’s minimum attendance requirement according to the following scale:
Number of Days Exempt Per Week = Minimum Attendance Requirement Per Semester
2 days per week = 42 days
3 days per week = 28 days
4 days per week = 15 days
3. Students who fail to meet the minimum attendance requirement will be placed on Chapel & Assembly Probation and must meet with the Dean of Students to determine appropriate strategies for successfully fulfilling the requirements for the following semester. While on Chapel and Assembly Probation a student will not be allowed to participate in intramural and other on-campus student activities and/or will not be allowed to represent Ohio Valley University at various events, including performances, competitions, and presentations.
4. A student who fails to meet the minimum attendance requirements while on Chapel & Assembly Probation will be suspended from the University for one semester and will be notified of their suspension during the week following the last day of finals.
5. Students are asked to respect the Chapel & Assembly environment by refraining from the use of laptops, headphones, cell phones, and other electronic equipment. Students are also asked to refrain from any behavior that disrupts the attention of those around them. Students who disregard this policy and students who leave chapel early for non-emergency reasons will be marked absent and notified by the Dean of Students.
6. Students who arrive at 10:05 a.m. or later will be considered tardy and must fill out a “tardy slip.” Three “tardies” will be counted as one absence.
