Linda Bainton Bird (NCJC '79)

LINDA (BAINTON) BIRD
Class of '79
Northeastern Christian Junior College

Linda Bird (Bainton) graduated from NCJC in 1979 with a liberal arts degree. Since then she has completed her masters in education and currently works in her community as a 6th grade teacher. She lives in Hoosick Falls, New York, with her husband, Dan and their three children: Lindsay (14), Amy (12), and Derek (9).
Dan works with as an engineer with a local company designing automated manufacturing equipment and their children are involved in various activities including swimming and scouts.

They are a vital part of their local congregation, the Bennington Church of Christ, located across the New York state border in Vermont. The church meets in a converted house in the picturesque tourist town and has approximately 30 members. The Bennington congregation recently installed elders and can not afford to support a full time minister.

Through the past several years the Birds have helped this small congregation continue in its service to the community. The congregation was gathering frequently in the home of Linda and Dan, sharing food, fellowship and fun. They are extremely focused on their children ministries and both Dan and Linda have been involved in teaching and planning in this area.

Every year the congregation gathers for a family retreat in the spring (keep in mind that this is Vermont and there are still patches of snow on the ground in the spring). The rustic facilities they use include out houses and a huge fireplace that provides the only source of heat. The Birds have made a conscience decision to live and work in the Northeast. It has not always been an easy one. The cost of living is high, the church is small and the economy has not always been the best. Linda is a great example of how the mission of OVU and NCJC is being played out in the lives of real people.
