Ohio Valley University MISSION STATEMENT

At Ohio Valley University, we seek to transform lives in a Christ-centered academic community that integrates higher learning, biblical faith and service to God and humanity.

This is accomplished by:

Equipping students for life through quality academic programs
Encouraging life-shaping relationships among faculty, staff, and students
Fostering holistic growth through varied co-curricular activities
Promoting knowledge, values, and skills inherent in healthy families and quality relationships
Connecting students to the global community
Instilling a desire for life-long learning
Creating opportunities for growth in faith and service

STUDENT REFLECTIONS ON OUR MISSION

A.G. (Sophomore)
The part that interests me the most in the mission statement is the higher learning and biblical faith to serve God. I have been called to go into ministry to go out and teach to other youths who have never heard who God is or what he has done for us. I want to learn all that I can, so that I can be the best” God wants his servants to be. I believe I will get that opportunity here at OVU.

Z.C. (Freshman)
The part that is outstanding to me would be the part WE SEEK, which means that the faculty at OVU is willing to provide me with an education. It’s not just a job for the faculty; they take it to heart. In other words, they are willing to teach me and make sure that no one falls through the cracks.

K.Z. (Sophomore)
The part in the mission statement about transforming lives is the most meaningful to me. I like the idea that by being here I am or will become a different, changed person. It makes me feel that I made the right decision about what college to attend. It is a bold statement, and I am glad I have the “nerve” to say it.

I find it amazing that, at OVU, you seek to transform lives. This not only gives us an education but makes better who we are.

“We seek to transform lives in a Christ-centered academic community.” This line lets me know that I am surrounded with Christians whom I know I can to spiritually and academically.

The most meaningful part of the mission statement in my opinion is that “WE are here to seek to transform lives.” I don’t feel that going to school is just about learning; it’s about expanding your horizons, meeting friends, and learning to live in the real world. But most importantly, it’s about faith and hope, and faith is what brought us here.

T.C. (Junior)
I like “encouraging life-shaping relationships among faculty, staff, and students”. This means a lot to me because I am looking forward to being close to my teachers and classmates. I think it’s cool how the teachers are close to the students and focus us on looking to God.

M.L. (Sophomore)
OVU’s being Christ-centered means a lot to me because over the past year, I have gone through a lot. It is always good to be back here where I know I can have the good influence and constant reminder that God is very active in my life. Struggles have brought me down so far that it has been hard for me to get back up. Here at OVU, it is easier to do. Not only am I gaining knowledge about my future career but I am also learning about life as a Christian woman. It’s an experience that only a few schools offer.

The part of the mission statement that is most meaningful to me is “Christ-centered”. If everything we do has Christ as the main focus, then everything else will fall into place.
