EXPRESSIONS JUDGES AND AWARDS
Ohio Valley University invites guests to serve as judges for Expressions club acts and talent competition. OVU employees, recent alumni (of less than 5 years) and close relatives of current students will not be invited to judge Expressions 2007.
Five judges will evaluate Expressions. The scores of all five judges will be added together and the awards will be announced at the end of the Saturday performance. Scores will be recorded and tallied on a computer spreadsheet. The Expressions score spreadsheet will be available to participants after the Saturday performance.
The judges will rate Expressions Club Acts in these categories on a scale of one to ten:
1. Script: setting, plot and characters
2. Acting: quality of actors’ performance
3. Music: quality of performance
4. Choreography: quality of performance
5. Costumes and Props
6. Backdrop: creativity of design
7. Overall quality of performance
Cooperation Award
The Director assigns points to each club when they meet the preparation deadlines. The Cooperation Award represents 300 points out of 1,000 possible points awarded for Expressions, as voted by the Interclub Council in April, 2002.
Frye Performance Award
The Frye Performance Award was named for Steve and Dottie Frye, who directed Expressions from 1981 until 1987.
This award represents the highest number of judges’ points earned by a club.
5 judges x 70 points each = 350 judges’ points possible
350 judges’ points will be multiplied by 2 for a total of 700 possible performance points
Woodroof Sweepstakes Award
The Woodroof Sweepstakes Award was named for Bob and Sherry Woodroof, who helped organize the first Delta Talent/Non-Talent Show in 1977. The show was named Expressions in 1978 and the Woodroofs continued to work with the show until 1985.
This award represents the highest total number of points earned by a club;
700 judges’ points + 300 cooperation points = 1,000 possible points.
Ham Award
The Ham Award is given to the most outstanding individual performance in a club act. It is determined by Mrs. Hamm. This award has no bearing on the points earned by the club acts. The recipient of the Ham Award will receive a trophy adorned by a pig.
