OVU STUDENT ATHLETIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The mission of the student athletic advisory committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity; protecting student-athlete welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image.

Purposes

  • To streamline and promote efficient communication between the senior administration at Ohio Valley University and the student-athlete population;
  • To actively encourage more involvement of student-athletes in campus and community projects;
  • To design and implement programs tat will encourage academic achievement, promote good health, social responsibility and general awareness;
  • To provide student-athletes opportunities to more effectively communicate with the Ohio Valley University Athletic Department and provide suggestions for improvement and program development.

Qualifications & Responsibilities

  • Members must be student-athletes and must be in eligible academic standing.
  • Members must agree to attend all meetings each semester.
  • Meetings are held twice a semester (Fall and Spring)

Standing Committee

The standing student athletic advisory committee consists of one student-athlete per varsity sport. The member is voted onto the committee by the coach and must not be the team captain. Other members of the committee include the athletic director, NCAA compliance coordinator, vice president for student services, FAR and SWA.

Committee Elections

The committee will vote each year and select a chairman and a secretary. They will serve these terms for one academic year. The secretary is responsible for recording all notes and meeting minutes.

On the second to the last meeting of the year (or the first meeting of the spring semester) voting will be held to select the chairman, the secretary and players representing each varsity sport. On the last meeting of the spring semester, new members become active.

Topics of Interest

In the past, the student athletic advisory committee has discussed topics such as: Mood-altering and performance enhancing drugs; alcohol; leadership training; fundraising; volunteering; speaking to other groups on campus and commuting organizations; student-athlete welfare; stress management; nutrition; time management; study skills; media relations; visiting hospitals, and youth programs such as D.A.R.E, Boy's & Girl's Clubs of America and Adopt a School.
