OVU vs UPJ recap

Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots Volleyball team hosted the University of Pitt-Johnstown this afternoon in the Snyder Activity Center. This afternoon’s match was the Fighting Scots final game of the season. Morgan Kelley, OVU’s only senior was recognized in Senior Night celebrations.
Pitt-Johnstown took the lead early and was able to win the first set 25-20. Senior Morgan Kelley led the Fighting Scots with 6 kills. Jessica Heidenthal led the Mountain Cats with 5 kills in the first set.
After a tough battle the Fighting Scots were able to rally together to win 27-25 in the second set. Despite the efforts of OVU, the University of Pitt-Johnstown women were able to able to win the third and fourth sets 25-16 and 25-22.
Jessica Simpson of OVU had a double double for the game contributing 15 assists and 15 digs. The Fighting Scots were also led in kills by Morgan Kelley with 13 and Allison Graves with 15. Hannah McMichael had 23 assists and Taylor Buchtmann added 18 digs for OVU. The Mountain Cats were led by Jessica Heidenthal who had 15 kills and Kelsey Kohler who had 21 digs.
The Fighting Scots end the season with an overall record of 9-22 and a conference record of 3-10.


Ohio Valley University’s volleyball team hosted the Golden Bears of WVU Tech tonight in the Snyder Activity Center. Tonight’s match is the third time the teams have faced off this season. OVU defeated WVU Tech in three sets at the Davis and Elkins tournament held in Septemeber. The Fighting Scots were also triumphant in Montgomery, WV when they played the Golden Bears on their home court, winning 3-2.
OVU finished the first set scoring 25-17. The set started out even between the Scots and Golden Bears but OVU was able to pull ahead and maintain the lead through the end.
OVU started the second set with 6 unanswered points. The Golden Bears rallied back to tie the game at 15-15 and 20-20. Allison Graves had two kills to help the Fighting Scots close out the set with a 25-22 win.
OVU dominated the third set winning 25-15. Allison Graves had 11 kills and Morgan Kelley had 7 kills for the Scots. Jessica Simpson contributed 20 assists to the offense and Taylor Buchtmann had 13 digs to help the Scots with their victory.


Ohio Valley Fighting Scots Volleyball team hosted the Battlers of Alderson-Broaddus tonight in the Snyder Activity Center.
After five thrilling sets the Battlers were able to come out on top with a 3-2 win. With the teams tied at one set each, the third set proved to be a battle with OVU winning in extra points (26-24) on two Morgan Kelley serves and a block by Felicia Zartman.
The forceful attack of Victoria Morgan, who had 14 kills for the night, helped Alderson Broaddus to escape with two final set wins. The Battlers were led by Julian Brown who had 17 digs.
Allison Graves had 9 kills and Jessica Simpson had 7 kills for the Scots. Hannah McMichael and Taylor Buchtmann both led the Scots with 16 digs each.
The Fighting Scots play at Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, October 21st at 7pm.


OVU vs Seton Hill Recap

The Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley University and the Seton Hill University Griffins faced off in conference action today at the Snyder Activity Center. Both teams came out playing hard but it was Seton Hill who was able to edge out Ohio Valley in a 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-23.
The Fighting Scots were led offensively once again by sophomore Allison Graves with 13 kills and senior Morgan Kelley with 10 kills. Jessica Simpson came away with a double double for the Scots scoring 19 assists and 12 digs. Ohio Valley played extremely well today in a hard fought three sets.
The Scots play again at home Tuesday, Oct 18th against conference opponent Alderson-Broaddus.


OVU vs Fairmont State Recap

Ohio Valley University lost to Fairmont State University tonight in conference play. The Fighting Falcons won the match in three sets 25-17, 25-14, and 25-20. The loss bring OVU to 1-6 in the conference and Fairmont to 4-2.
OVU was led offensively by Allison Graves with 11 kills. Hannah McMichael and Jessica Simpson each contributed with 13 assists. Taylor Buchtmann played some hard defense for the Scots providing 17 digs.
Ohio Valley is back on the court tomorrow at home against Seton Hill University.


OVU vs D&E Recap

Vienna, W.Va. – Tonight the Fighting Scots Volleyball team hosted conference opponents Davis & Elkins College in the Snyder Activity Center. After being defeated in five sets at Davis & Elkins earlier this season, Ohio Valley slammed past the Senators in three hard fought sets.
Ohio Valley’s offense was sparked by the attacking efforts of Allison Graves and Morgan Kelley who combined for a total of 25 kills for the night. OVU also capitalized on their serving opportunities and had a team total of only four serve errors for the match. Davis & Elkins rallied to keep the games close but were unable to take control in any of the sets.
The Fighting Scots posted scores of 25-21, 25-20, and 25-21. Ohio Valley’s next game will be held at home against conference opponent West Virginia State University on Thursday, October 6th at 7:00pm.
