VIENNA, WV – Ohio Valley University freshman Kayla Linger brought home a third place finish at the recent West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season tournament October 21 and 22 at Canaan Valley Resort in Davis, West Virginia.
Linger, a freshman from Buckhannon, W.Va., is majoring in sports management at OVU. She is the daughter of Darrell and Michelle Linger.
“This was the best that Kayla has scored all year,” said Amy Colgrove, OVU head women’s golf coach. “That being said, she has been our most consistent player all season. The sky is the limit for her and once she realizes how good she really is, she will be one of the best players to come through our conference.”
Linger scored a 78 and 79 respectively during the two-day tournament.
“This was a huge accomplishment. Kayla is a freshman playing in her first conference championship, so her emotions were running high. Secondly, the weather conditions were awful. She kept her focus though and ending up being the highest finishing freshman in the WVIAC this year.”
Colgrove continued, “I thought we played pretty well as a team in the tournament. We have a very young team so I look for us to be competing for the title in the very near future. The conference is getting better and better every year. It used to be just one or two teams truly competing for the title and now we have five teams that are competitive enough to win any given week.”
