RECENT INSTITUTE CHANGES TO NOTE:

2. Eligible students will have prior certification in one of the following areas: elementary education or secondary English, math, social studies, or general science.

3.  Teachers in other certification areas can achieve certification in special education through an alternative program created by the West Virginia Department of Education.  The alternative program courses are specified in WVBE Policy 5100.  With 21 credit hours in coursework, teachers can gain a foundation in English, math, science, or social studies and then complete a special education certification program.  Please call Jo Pennington at 304-865-6141 for information about this alternative certification program.
