The College of Education strives to fulfill its mission by developing teachers who have sound ethical principles, genuine desire and skill to serve and guide their students, and strong academic preparation. Every program component and course assists these goals across three categories: 1) Professional Ethics and Behaviors, 2) Liberal Arts & Content Knowledge, and 3) Professional Knowledge & Skills. Students strengthen their knowledge and skills surrounding standards-based learning with a constructivist theory base. They engage actively and model exemplary evidence-based practices to optimize their students’ learning AND their own.

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
The School of Education offers seven certification programs. High standards ensure that graduates are “learner ready,” requiring specific criteria for program admission, retention, and graduation from the program.
Three transition points (program admission, admission to student teaching, and program completion) provide a time for reflection by the student and program faculty to be sure that the student’s program is progressing satisfactorily and that the certification program is a good career goal for the student. Program advisors work closely with students, helping them to fulfill all program components.
GRADUATE SCHOOL OF LEARNING AND LEADING
The Master of Education degree program in curriculum and instruction is designed to meet the growing national need for highly qualified teachers at all classroom levels. Courses include advanced studies in research-based practices for teaching and learning, curriculum design, assessment, and program improvement.
With all classes offered in a flexible online format by highly skilled faculty, the OVU M.Ed. is designed with the working professional in mind.
