Vienna, W.Va.—Ohio Valley University will celebrate its annual Homecoming on the Vienna campus November 10, 11.
Always an important feature of Homecoming is the recognition of several alumni and their accomplishments. The Alumni Awards Dinner, Saturday November 11, will provide a forum for the honors ceremony. The dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the university’s Roberts Chapel on the main campus.
Alumni from Northeastern Christian Junior College, Ohio Valley College and Ohio Valley University will be honored.
This year’s Alumnus of the Year is Jerrold D. Patton, Jr. from South Jordan, Utah. Jerry graduated from Northeastern Christian Junior College in 1984. He also attended Lubbock Christian University and Nova Southeastern University. He has been active in child care ministry with the Children’s Home of Lubbock, Tejas Home for Youth, Texas Boy’s Ranch and Christ’s Haven Home for Youth. Jerry also served in the military as a medic in the U.S. Army. Jerry currently serves as the Director of Pharmacy and Retail Operations for Walgreens.
Jim and Carol (Garrett) Bailey are also graduates of Northeastern Christian Junior College, class of 1970.The Bailey’s are recipients of this year’s Christian Service Award. Jim serves on the Board of Directors of the Delaware Valley Christian Camp in Pennsylvania, and Carol also serves on the camp board and has managed the kitchen and food service operation and cooked at Camp Manatawny for over 30 years.
The university’s Executive Vice President Jeffrey Dimick will be this year’s Honorary Alumnus. Jeff is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University where he serves on the school’s board of trustees. He has served as the Ohio Valley University Executive Vice President since 2012.
Each year at Homecoming the Ohio Valley University Alumni Association recognizes a number of former students with the Medal of Merit for accomplishments in specific areas. This year’s Medal of Merit honorees include the following:
John Paul Suchecki (OVU – 2008) – Medal of Merit in Bible
John Paul is the Family Life Minister for the 53rd Avenue Church of Christ in Bradenton, Florida. He and his wife spent three years in missions in China.
Jeremy Woodard (OVU – 2002) – Medal of Merit in Business
Jeremy is a Wound Care Consultant at Healogics, Inc. He is responsible for $1.5 million in revenue for local hospital systems.
Dixie Harper (OVU – 1967) – Medal of Merit in Community Service
Dixie’s specialty is hand-sewn quilts which she initially provided to the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Fund and more recently to Eastern European Missions.
Dr. Jerry Frazier (NCJC – 1983) – Medal of Merit in Education
Jerry has been in Texas teaching and ministering for the past 22 years. He has been named campus teacher of the year four times and region teacher of the year twice.
Marty Davis (OVU – 1985) – Medal of Merit in Marketing
Marty manages marketing and public relations activities for the North American subsidiary of ELPRO, a Swiss-based company that manufactures precision environmental monitoring software for the world’s top 50 pharmaceutical companies.
Trisha Hudkins (OVU – 2006) – Medal of Merit in Social Science
Trisha is an attorney with Lewis Brisbois Bisgard and Smith in the firm’s Weirton, West Virginia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania offices
