OVU Alumnus: James Burt

Vienna, W.Va.—James Burt is just one more of OVU’s success stories. A graduate of Buckeye Trail High School in Cambridge, Ohio, where he served as president of National Honor Society and Student Government, James began his collegiate life at Ohio State University as a non-degree seeking student. OSU, he discovered, wasn’t a good fit, so he matriculated into Ohio Valley University where he found a rigorous academic program in a Christian atmosphere. In his words, “Academically, OVU gives students the opportunity to make an undisputable resume. The school is small enough for students to find here precisely what they need at a particular point in their professional journey.”

Following his 2018 graduation from OVU as humanities major with concentrations in psychology and English, James was offered the position of Assistant to Student Life, which has proven to be another perfect fit. During his student days, James was intern to the Director of International Experience, Sally Massy, and helped to integrate international students into American culture. This internship fed directly into his present work.

Under direction of Dr. Noelle Hunter, James implements diverse programming into OVU’s Student Life Department. James has also helped to initiate the iSTAND Student Network, which assists parents whose children have been abducted by the other parent and taken out of the country. He also manages the Student Center and has significantly expanded its service and influence to both the OVU student body and the community.

According to James, “Ohio Valley University has become more than just my alma mater; it has become a fixture to my development as a Christian and a professional. The people here care about the work of the Lord and do their best at guiding students to find a life with him.”
