Coaches vs. Cancer

It's that time of year again.  OVU Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike Snell and the Ohio Valley University Men's Basketball program is once again partnering with the National Association of Basketball Coaches for "Coaches vs. Cancer."  Each and every year, through this initiative, OVU has been able to step up their donations, and last year was a banner year as they were able to raise over $1600.  Coach Snell, who lost his wife and grandfather to this terrible disease, had this to say about the outpouring and love and support for the cause.  "Thank you again for your awesome generosity this year! Together we will beat cancer!"

OVU is scheduled to be on the road for the National Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week (January 20- January 26) so the Fighting Scots would like to announce that their home game February 13 vs. Kentucky Wesleyan and their home game February 15 vs. Trevecca Nazarene will partner with Coaches vs. Cancer to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Fans and students are encouraged to wear white sneakers to the games and will have the opportunity to donate money to the American Cancer Society before, during, and after the games.

When you tie your shoelaces before going to those games, remember that these efforts to raise awareness, and to help raise funds, are saving lives.  According to figures recently released by the American Cancer Society, the Cancer death rate declined 29% from 1991-2017, including a 2.2% drop from 2016-2017, the largest single-year drop in cancer mortality ever reported. This is important news for our fans, our families, friends and neighbors who are or who may be affected by cancer.

If you are interested in donating to Coaches vs. Cancer before the designated games, please see Coach Mike Snell or contact him at mike.snell@ovu.edu or better yet, donate directly online at pledgeit.org/cvc20-ohiovalley.
