OVU Welcomes Kim Shegog
Creativity, imagination and a desire to develop the minds of students through the written word are values exhibited by our newest addition to the English faculty, Kim Shegog. “Engagement and conversation with students both inside and outside the classroom,” are the things Shegog is most looking forward to in her role.
Upon receiving a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Converse College and Master of Arts in English from The College of Charleston and The Citadel; Shegog devoted ten years as an English Lecturer at Coastal Carolina University, Conway, South Carolina. In addition to time spent as a Writing Center Director and English Instructor, Ms. Shegog published a short story in the Appalachian Review, entitled, “Goodbye Alice.” Its detail and imagery immediately capture the reader, while creating a thought-provoking narrative.
When asked how she saw God at work in her new position, Shegog had the following to relate. “In some way, every day, God reminds me to encourage students to recognize, at the fundamental level no matter what context or discipline, their goal is to make sense and be effective—that, in addition to utilizing the resources available to them, are critical to success both inside and outside the academic world.”
