OVU Student to compete in Phi Beta Lamda National Leadership Conference

In March, Ohio Valley University Accounting major, Nathan Eddy, participated in the West Virginia State Competition for Phi Beta Lamda. With over 8,000 members and more than 350 chapters, PBL inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.

On the state level, Nathan placed 1st in both of his categories, Accounting for Professionals and Computer Applications. Through these state-based competitions, members compete in events that test their business knowledge and skills. He explained, “Both events contain both production and written tests. Accounting for Professionals test students on advanced accounting and business principles and applies them to realistic situations. Computer Applications tests students on the working of computers and software as well as knowledge on how to use software to quickly produce professional documents, spreadsheets, presentations and databases.” Nathan earned his spot as a top finisher, securing a trip to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah in June.

This is not the first time Nathan has made it to the national level as last year he placed 1st and 3rd at the national Competition in San Antonio, Texas. He has been active in Phi Beta Lamda since he was a freshman in high school. Originally, he started for personal reasons but fell in love with the organization and its mission.

When asked about his experience he replied, "PBL has been a major part of my life for many years and has given me opportunities that I could never have experienced on my own. Regardless of the results of competitive events, PBL is a major resume booster and helps me to aim for the stars to grow in my career. I am so thankful for what the organization has provided to me and am hopeful to finish strong in my collegiate career." Nathan is a College of Business student and will be graduating in May 2020 from Ohio Valley University.
