OVU Welcomes Coach White

Bump. Set. Spike. Just a few of the terms you may hear from our newest coach at Ohio Valley University, Will White, as he strives to "build a better world through volleyball.” With the mission of Christ firmly before him, Coach White is passionate about having an influence on the lives of his players. “My goal is to help train them on the court and help them in their lives off the court, “he remarked.

Coach White joins the staff at OVU with twelve years of experience coaching at both the high school and collegiate levels. His most recent position allowed him to serve as Assistant Coach at the University of North Alabama, an NCAA, D-1 school in the ASUN Conference. Involvement in various training, certifications, camp programs and world-renowned volleyball organizations have allowed Coach White to hone his skills preparing him for this current assignment.

In addition to the task of coaching, he will be instrumental in the recruitment and retention of his players. By modeling the importance of education and working to complete his degree; Coach White will be embracing a treasured phrase penned by Michelangelo at the age of 87, “anocora imparo,” in English “yet I am learning. “

Seeing God’s hand clearly at work in his midst, made the transition to join the OVU family a smooth one. Coach White brings with him a devoted family in his wife, Lanice who will serve alongside him as an assistant coach. The couple has two children, Michael age 16 starting his senior year this fall, and Zella age 11 who also shares a love of volleyball.

When sharing his thoughts regarding working with his team this fall, Coach White stated, “This is an amazing opportunity that I feel only comes around once in a lifetime.”
