Alumnus Dr. Dorn Muscar settling into his new role as Dean of Student Life

“Investing in the lives of our students and doing my part to make sure they have a great experience here at OVU;” is what Alumnus Dorn Muscar, is eager to achieve in his new role as Dean of Student Life.

Although not part of his original career plan, vast experience in serving others through the local church, outreach ministry and military, led Dean Muscar back to Ohio Valley University. “I graduated from OVC in ’02 and those formative years of my life set me on the course that has brought me back here to serve nearly 20 years later. Higher education provides so much more than a piece of paper to hang on a wall. I learned, in many new ways, how to think critically, read broadly, grow spiritually, connect socially, and walk humbly with God,” he stated.

Muscar and his wife Carolyn are delighted to welcome their first child in September. The couple moved to Parkersburg prior to the pandemic leaving very little time for him to connect with students. However, he has seen God’s hand at work in the midst as he prepares for the upcoming academic semester. In addition to pursuing the mission of the university, Dean Muscar seeks to engage with students in an authentic way assisting them as they grow “intellectually, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.”

Dean Muscar concluded with the passage that guides his life’s work, John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
